Dare to Dream

As we approach the end of January, we are extremely excited for what the rest of the year 2021 has in store for us. After an unprecedented year, we embrace 2021 and its endless opportunities with great hope and expectation! Tonight we muse on the young boy Joseph, who the Bible describes as a dreamer from his very early years:

Genesis 37:5-9 NIV - Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers, they hated him all the more. He said to them, “Listen to this dream I had: We were binding sheaves of grain out in the field when suddenly my sheaf rose and stood upright, while your sheaves gathered around mine and bowed down to it.” His brothers said to him, “Do you intend to reign over us? Will you actually rule us?” And they hated him all the more because of his dream and what he had said. Then he had another dream, and he told it to his brothers. “Listen,” he said, “I had another dream, and this time the sun and moon and eleven stars were bowing down to me.”

What would have happened to Joseph had he stopped dreaming after his family did not believe in his first dream/vision? What if he just gave up on those dreams? Would we be talking about him still today? I can assure you one thing: the memory of Joseph would have fizzled out of the minds of many if he had allowed his dreams to fizzle out of his mind. As a matter of fact, the same can be said of any great person, icon or role model that has ever lived.

In life, we will face many adversities that will counteract the dreams that we have. The Bible addresses that very fact when it talks of “the day(s) of adversity,” which for most of us is an accurate description of this past year. However, God, through Joseph, gives us a clue as to what to do once those days come.

What can the young boy Joseph teach us about dreaming again? When life, and all the issues of life arise, God is reminding us that just like Joseph who dreamed another dream, we must also dream again in faith this year! So I say to you, dare to dream again!

What will you dare to dream again in 2021?
